About this program

What they say about themselves

Josh Beckler, owner of K9 Optima, describes a path into dog training that began with compulsion-based methods before he concluded they worsened fear and behavior problems. According to his site, he then studied neurobiology, physiology, and animal learning theory to develop what he calls "The Infinite Approach"—a framework focused on addressing the nervous-system drivers behind reactive or aggressive behavior rather than suppressing symptoms. He states he has never used a leash correction, shock collar, or choke collar, and is currently working toward certification as a canine behaviorist.

The Antioch-based business reports working with nearly 6,000 dogs over four years, with a stated focus on cases other trainers have refused—severe reactivity, aggression, and deep-rooted anxiety. Board-and-train dogs live in Beckler's home with his family rather than in kennels, and sessions can be livestreamed to clients. The site describes using a team of trained helper dogs, each assigned a specific role during reactivity work, allowing nose-to-nose exposure in controlled conditions.

K9 Optima offers private lessons, board-and-train programs, and virtual consulting via Zoom. The business claims recognition as a top-ranked trainer through Sniffspot and an Oakland Magazine Readers' Choice award in 2024. Beckler has also authored a book, *The Infinite Approach*, which his site describes as a #1 new release on Amazon.
