Justin Scher leads the San Diego franchise of Bark Busters, bringing two decades of experience working with dogs displaying aggression, leash reactivity, and separation anxiety. According to the company's website, he holds their Master Trainer designation and has received multiple U.S. and international trainer of the year awards. He works alongside trainer Jenna Finch to provide sessions throughout the greater San Diego area.
Bark Busters operates as a franchise within a larger international network that, per their site, has worked with over a million dogs since launching in Australia in 1989. The company was started by Sylvia Wilson after she spent ten years managing an animal shelter and observed how many dogs were surrendered due to behavioral problems. The method she developed emphasizes what they describe as natural communication techniques rather than food rewards or physical corrections, with all sessions conducted in the client's home.
The San Diego operation focuses on common behavioral concerns, dogs that pull on leash, bark excessively, jump on visitors, or struggle when left alone. They also offer foundational puppy work. One notable feature is what they call a "Life of Dog Support Guarantee," which they say allows clients to request follow-up help for new or recurring issues at no additional charge.
