Care, the founder of Fenways Runway, started the business in 2014 after years working in veterinary clinics where she witnessed dogs experiencing stress and injury in traditional care settings. A Navy wife and mother, she named the operation after her own dog, Fenway Lynn, and runs it out of her family's quarter-acre fenced property a few minutes from downtown San Diego.
According to their website, the business operates as what they call a "private dog club" rather than a commercial facility. Boarding dogs stay in the home with access to couches, beds, and outdoor grass space. Daycare is kept small—dogs must complete a private daycare session before joining any group play, and capacity is intentionally limited. Their training model is entirely private and conducted in the client's own home, starting with a two-hour intensive that includes all household members, followed by customized one-on-one sessions and ongoing text support.
The site describes a particular focus on reactive, shy, nervous, or anxious dogs, stating that "any dog can become reactive, any reactive dog can be restored." They also offer grooming in a walk-in shower setup with no cage drying, marketed as calmer for sensitive dogs. Now in business for eleven years, Fenways Runway held an anniversary event in August with proceeds going to a local dog rescue organization.
