The San Lorenzo Dog Training Club was founded in 1953, and has been teaching people to train their dogs ever since. Our experienced trainers offer a wide variety of obedience classes from puppy socialization and beginning manners through competition-level utility, as well as conformation, canine freestyle (dog dancing), and K9 nose work classes. We also hold an annual all-breed obedience and rally match in the spring, and an AKC-sanctioned obedience and rally trial in the fall, in addition to Member's Only Workshops throughout the year.

About this program

What they say about themselves

San Lorenzo Dog Training Club is a non-profit, member-run organization that has been holding classes in the San Leandro area since 1953. According to their site, the club is licensed by the American Kennel Club to hold obedience and rally trials—an annual tradition they describe maintaining every year since 1958, with rally trials added in 2006.

The club's training facility features a fully matted floor and mirrored walls. Their class offerings range from puppy socialization for dogs under six months to competition-level utility obedience. Beyond standard obedience, they list conformation classes for show preparation, canine freestyle (sometimes called dog dancing), K9 nose work, and rally. They note that many members train and certify their dogs for therapy work through outside organizations, and the club coordinates visits to community facilities.

Their stated philosophy centers on the idea that obedience training strengthens the relationship between dogs and owners. As a volunteer-run club rather than a commercial business, they describe themselves as serving both people pursuing obedience titles and those simply wanting a better-behaved companion. The club appears to welcome purebred and mixed-breed dogs alike.
